♥ not a believer of fairy tales & happy endings..
♥ yet, my friends r my life..

those are the guys[dayak guys we called them] performing the well-known Ngajat Dance...or also known as the Hornbill dance...
[notice their headgears??]
those are real hornbill's feathers....
1 of those cost a fortune...
i mean if we're talking about authentic ones...
=P

here are the ladies....mostly are young girls...
just like u & me...
they will be dancing the dayak's dance...
at the end of the night,
gawai's eve that is...
1 of them will be crowned as the 'Kumang Gawai'...
means....
the fairest and prettiest of all...
so,
before gawai....
all the ladies would prep awfully lots...
to look their best at that night...

well....guys are as well acknowledged...
haha!! [don't worry]
the loudest and best dancer in the Ngajat dance would be the king of the night...
there isn't any proper name though to call this guy...
[perhaps it slipped my mind-sorry!]
as info, all the dance have their own respective meanings and purposes with their unique moves and chants....
you can't simply dance out there...
it's a ritual dance...
sending gratitude to the Paddy Spirit...
and asking for a more bountiful year ahead...
This celebration of unity, aspiration and hope for the Dayaks mark the end of the rice harvest and ushers in another year of bountiful goodness. During this festival, almost everyone dresses in traditional costumes while the elders perform traditional rites.
First celebrated on 1st June 1965, it is the feast for the eyes with its colourful rituals, traditional music, cock fighting, feasting and games. It is simply a time for merrymaking.

these are the infamous rice wine...or well known as 'tuak' by many...
different longhouse make different 'tuak'...
it tastes rather weird though...
[for me la... =P]
this is another famous gawai dish...it's chicken cooked in bamboo...
we called it 'pansoh manok'
awfully delicious!!!
you guys will certainly crave for more...

this is 'umai Sarawak'it's raw fish with lots of spices...
very appetizing!!
so, that's all for now...
will put up pics soon on actual gawai for me...
[to all my friends celebrating Gawai, Happy Gawai Dayak!!!]
[to those NOT, Happy Holidays!!]

till then,
u know u love me
xoxo
